Bluetooth USB Dongle
The Bluetooth technology is a recent development and is more prevalently found in mobile phones. The Bluetooth enabled phones usually are required to the user’s computer for backup, data upload and download, photo download and other reasons. Now the computer to communicate with the Bluetooth enabled phone, it must also be Bluetooth enabled but unfortunately most of the desktop computers and older laptops do not have any provision for Bluetooth connectivity built in them.
As most of the computers now have USB connecters, USB Bluetooth adaptors or dongles in common parlance has been developed by vendor, which when plugged into the USB port make the computer blue tooth enabled. The USB Bluetooth adaptor or dongle is usually a three inch long device which simply plugs into the USB port of the computer and provides Bluetooth communication facilities to the computer using which it is able to communicate with any other Bluetooth enabled device like mobile phone, printer, scanner, and even another computer. Using USB Bluetooth dongles on two or more computers a private area network can be created which does not require any wires. The private area network can have a maximum of 8 members and should be confined to a radius of 5 meters that is to say no device should be more than 10 meters away from any other device in the network.
A lot of manufacturers are now selling USB Bluetooth dongles and the technology has been so wide spread that these dongles are available of prices starting at $5 a piece making them affordable to all and sundry. The problem of carrying a variety of connectivity cables is now over. Your phone can communicate to any other device using Bluetooth and even with your hands free kit installed in the car. The Bluetooth dongle has provided the same facilities to your desktop computer as well as the laptop where it issued. The web of cables is gone forever.
