Regenersis, mobile phone recycler, in its latest recycling news has called that standards be set for mobile phone recycling across Europe including the removal of all data from handsets received, a ban on the export of non-working handsets, which could end up as waste, and a zero landfill policy.
Regenersis (Oxford) is calling for the means for the removal of all personal data from handsets to protect the identity of the owner and to prevent hoarding of old equipment because of fears over identity theft voiced by many company’s including Mobile Phone Xchange, Fonebank, and Mazuma.

The companies will also look into the working and non-working handsets to segregate so that non working handsets are not shipped to developing economies. So the telecom companies have taken a stern measure to delete all those data from the handsets to protect consumer’s privacy, O2 and rival provider 3 are also supporting the idea.
Regenersis is calling for a zero landfill policy and a requirement that all non-working, non-repairable products are recycled in their home market rather than in places such as China, India or Africa, minimizing impact on the environment.
